about

It's summer 2021, we are heading towards another lockdown, and an opportune conversation leads to a passing reference concerning a spoken word artist who recorded tracks 15 years ago, which had never been released. Intrigued, texts, emails are sent, telephone calls made and a Zoom conversation with Adisa takes place, "I write & perform to probe, inspire and disrupt", he informs us. We are sold.

Adisa is a London based poet, originally from Barbados. Performing since 1993, fusing poetry with different Caribbean rhythms alongside R&B, funk and jazz. He works in communities, schools, pubs, festivals and has performed at many venues, including Buckingham Palace. He has been Hackney Poet Laureate and, in 2009, was named New Performance Poet of the Year.

A few weeks pass, the first batch of recordings appear. We are excited, like finding an uncut diamond. These recordings pre Black Lives Matter Movement are poignant for the their time and still resonant today.

The first 4 tracks from the Past Tracks recordings have painstakingly been remastered by Simon Edwards (Talk Talk, Beth Gibbons, Fairground Attraction) with Adisa. Download include a 14-page PDF booklet of Notes, Lyrics and Photographs, as well as one-off desktop wallpaper called, This Story's Live.
